I tried everywhere to locate this movie and found it on Videobeat. NINA SIMONE – THE LEGEND 1990 documentary on DVDĮxcellent quality movie. The film covers slavery, civil-rights activists, 60s assassinations, and explores methods used by police, the FBI, and the CIA to divide and destroy the key figures in the Black Panthers. This documentary uses amazing 1960s archival footage combined with interviews with ex-CIA, ex-FBI, 60s era journalists, and several Black Panthers and political radicals. After battling breast cancer, she died at age 70 in her home on April 21, 2003. and migrated to Barbados, Liberia, Switzerland, and the Netherlands before settling in the South of France. The consequences were a diminished output of recordings. She made bad deals with record companies, got into trouble with the IRS and had difficult relationships with the men in her life. Simone's personal life was marred by setbacks. From her song "Mississippi Goddam," which she penned and released in 1964 in response to the assassination of Medgar Evers and the murder of four little black girls in Birmingham, to "To Be Young Gifted and Black," Simone showed a generation what it meant to be a fierce woman warrior and uncompromising artist.
Simone provided the soundtrack for the Civil Rights Movement and the Black Power Movement. However, while playing piano in Atlantic City she was told to sing and the legendary Nina Simone was born.
