Your entire job is to help me and the rest of us. We spend too much time and energy agonizing over gear when we should be agonizing over recordings. But the depressing reality is that we have no control a really good recording streamed over Tidal will always beat a so-so recording streamed over Qobuz, and vice versa.

I also have a dumb, but nonetheless real, skepticism toward MQA and its whole “compressed, but not really” approach. But, like others have said, I do prefer the Qobuz sound for some elusive reason. I’ve invested a decent chunk of money into my digital side on two systems, and I still find it a close call. (2) I question whether it’s decent enough, however, to reveal a difference between HiRez Qobuz files and Tidal’s MQA. (1) OP is doing something that, IMHO, more people should do: bypassing the Node 2 DAC and using it as a streamer only. While Qobuz owns a million Hi-Res tracks and over 60 million tracks in CD resolution. Users can find music on the Tidal sections like albums, explore, etc. For Tidal, it offers more than 70 million tracks and 240,000 music videos in its library. Almost sounds like two different recordings when listening on Qobuz vs Tidal. Qobuz vs Tidal Library First, the most important aspects is the music library. The Qobuz file sounds fuller and has more presence. I listened to ’The Box’ by Roddy Ricch which is a MQA file on Tidal and CD quality on Qobuz. Not a big fan of hip hop, but decided to listen to something that is squarely in Tidal’s area of focus. Editor’s note: this TIDAL vs Spotify article was updated on November 17, 2021, to address new TIDAL subscription tiers.
Tidal vs qobuz plus#
The CD quality file on Qobuz sounds a LOT fuller and more natural. No two platforms are as different as Spotify and TIDAL where Spotify prioritizes social features and personalized algorithms, TIDAL HiFi Plus prioritizes sound quality and puts artists first. I’m currently listening to a track that is a MQA file on Tidal vs a CD quality file on Qobuz. In the process, I think side effects of doing this is to take out some of the presence of voices and instruments and add an artificial quality to voices and instruments.

Spotify Premium even seems to sound better than Tidal. I’ll listen a bit more to Tidal, but so far I’m not impressed at all. This services desktop app is clunky and nowhere near as nice as its web client. Tidal sounds very two dimensional and flat in its sound quality but with some harshness in the high frequencies. Tidal vs qobuz free#
Personally, I would trial both free with my particular use cases and see which suits best. Of the small minority of my music that isnt on services, slightly more are missing from Qobuz than Tidal but ymmv in that regards (Spotify better than both).Īt the point when Tidal makes its connect feature available on PC- so I can control playback from my phone to PC, then to EQ and onto the DAC I will likely ditch amazon too. Tidal still integrates better into Roon IME and into UAPP than qobuz. Using the the hifi (lossless tier - I have no need of MQA.
Tidal vs qobuz android#
I now use Amazon music for listening through a PC -dac-amp rig (EAPO for headphone eq on the PC) and back to Tidal for using on mobile rig - it plays well with the Android UAPP rig, again for the EQ.
